Authority

(TB/Cataloging) (FR : Autorité)
An authority record is the standardized and validated form of an author’s name (natural person or corporate body), geographical names and names of works, in order to be able to identify them unequivocally and to find all the documents produced by a same entity. This notion is essential to the functioning of computerized catalogs: in Sudoc, the cataloging of author and subject access points is done under online control of authority records in order to avoid any ambiguity or generate duplicates.
